If you're searching for the Shirogane Onsen Hotel, look under its new name. Aonobi Yuyu took over the old Yumoto Shirogane Onsen Hotel in the Shirogane village above Biei, near the Shirahige waterfall and the road to the Blue Pond.
The baths are kakenagashi (free-flowing), so the spring reaches the tubs untouched. You hear the river from the rotenburo. There's a dry sauna at about 90°C. The outdoor bath and sauna close from midnight to 06:00.
Dinner and breakfast are buffets in a blue-and-white dining room over the gorge. At night the live kitchen turns out Hokkaido beef steak and tempura, and in the morning it's omelettes and bread from Biei wheat. Ryounkaku and the Tokachidake trailhead are about half an hour up the road. Biei is one of the towns named in the Tokachidake level 3 warning from September 2026, so read the JMA page before you plan any touring.
