Yurakusoan is the easy answer to a day at Sapporo Kokusai. The resort is about 25 minutes up Route 230, so you can be back in a yukata before dark. Every one of the 102 rooms has a tub of fragrant hiba wood filled with natural onsen, and that means a soak never involves a queue.
Four private baths sit off the corridors, and they take no booking. Check the lamp at the door, and if it shows empty, go in. After the bath the lounge sets out ice lollies and drinks, and late in the evening it hands out free bowls of yonaki soba (late-night noodles).
Kyoritsu's rule bars tattoos of any size from the main baths. The tub in your room and the private baths make that easy to live with here. Dinner is kaiseki, and you choose an early or late sitting when you book.
