La Vista Hakodate Bay stands on the bay front at Toyokawa-cho. JR Hakodate Station is about 15 minutes away on foot and the airport 20 minutes by car. Breakfast is the famous part. You build your own kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) at the counter, and Hakodate squid is on the line. Guest reviews have ranked it the best hotel breakfast in Hokkaido seven years running.
The baths are up on the 13th-floor roof. The open-air pools face Mount Hakodate, and the water flows straight from the source. Each side has a dry sauna and a cold plunge. Late in the evening the hotel hands out free yonaki soba (late-night noodles).
Hakodate Nanae Snow Park is roughly 40 minutes north by car, so this makes a good stop when you're driving the south of the island. There are 335 rooms. Kyoritsu bars tattoos of any size from the public baths.
