Rusutsu Pension Clydesdale
¥24,000 a night
Clydesdale sits on Route 230 about a kilometre past the resort, and the family who run it can cook. Dinner is a handmade Italian course at 19:00 built on Rusutsu pork and Rusutsu daikon, and it takes about an hour and a half. Book it two days ahead. Breakfast at 7:30 comes with bagels made in the kitchen.
The five rooms are twins and loft twins that suit a family, and they share bathrooms and toilets. Two lockable family baths take the place of a public bath. The owners also hand out vouchers for the village-run Rusutsu Onsen, and it takes about ten minutes to drive there. A trailer house with a three-night minimum and two dome cottages sit on the property too.
The lifts are three minutes away by car and too far to walk. The owners will drive you to the Rusutsu Resort bus stop and the ski area if you ask by the day before. Pickups pause during dinner and stop at 21:30. Reservations are online only, and room-only rates run from ¥12,000 to ¥24,000 per person. Preschoolers can't be booked on the dinner plan.
