Sounkyo Choyotei

Choyotei is the base for riding Kurodake. The ropeway station is about a kilometre up the road, and the hotel's free car park holds around 120 cars.
Baths are spread over three spots in the building. The seventh-floor sky rotenburo looks straight at Mount Choyo and the columnar-jointed cliffs of the gorge, and it swaps between men and women through the day so everyone gets the view. The second-floor Keigetsu bath was rebuilt in 2008 and has a sauna big enough for about 20 people. The water is piped from the Sasa-no-yu source about a kilometre away and comes out of the ground at 74°C.
Dinner and breakfast are buffets in Hayamomiji, and the kitchen builds them on produce from northern Hokkaido. Noguchi Kanko runs reserved shuttle buses to Sounkyo from Sapporo and Asahikawa.
