Mount Racey opened in 1972 on land the Yubari coal mines left behind. The city bought it in 2002 and went bankrupt five years later. Kamori Kanko ran it for a decade before a Chinese developer bought it in 2017, and a Hong Kong company took it over in 2019 and renamed the holding company Yubari Resort. Operations stopped in December 2020. A new operating company reopened the hill a year later.
The 2025/26 season was rough. A brake and grip fault in March 2025 sent all 76 gondola cabins away for factory overhaul, so the gondola stayed shut all winter and the summit Sky Station stayed closed. Then two quad chairs broke down in early January. By 21 January the Swingers 2 double was the last lift turning, and it served eight runs. The season ended on 29 March with an apology for the repeated faults. The operator says it aims to have the gondola back in December 2026. As of October nothing had been announced for the 2026/27 season.

The terrain is steep when the lifts all run. Raccoon Line drops off Reisui-yama at 45 degrees and Carving Line at 43, and the resort leaves both ungroomed. Deer Line and Thrilling Line run through the trees, and the map lets you ride the orange off-course zones at your own risk. New Chitose is 50 to 60 minutes away by car. Hotel Mount Racey is due to reopen under the TUI Hotels & Resorts brand in November 2026.
