Camping Labo works out of an office block near Sapporo Station and delivers vans free to the station or Odori. The Serengeti, Cresson Voyage and most Amitys are 4WD and sleep up to six. A weekday 24 hours costs ¥17,800 plus tax, and the Hijet Cargo kei van goes for ¥7,800. Duvets and camp chairs come free, and so does a cooler box with a lantern.
The FAQ answers the winter question plainly: yes, with an FF heater, and no water from November to March because the lines freeze. The company blog adds that every van rented from December is 4WD on studless tyres. The cars page still lists the ZIL Noble and one Amity as 2WD, so check which van you're getting. The site is in Japanese only.
