2015-03 · Hokkaido Wilds trip report
In a report published in March 2015, late-season snow was rotten with debris low down, and the steep upper ridge needed kicked steps. The party left skis and packs about 50 m below the top and scrambled the rest on all fours in a cold westerly.

Fuppushi-dake stands at 1,102 metres beside Tarumae on the south shore of Lake Shikotsu. The Kitaone route climbs the north ridge from roadside parking and gains about 770 metres over a 5.3-kilometre round trip. Parts of it are very steep. Hokkaido Wilds advises leaving it alone after heavy snow.
The descent faces north and holds its snow. From the top the whole caldera lake opens below you and Eniwa-dake stands on the far shore. Bears are common on this mountain once spring arrives, and two people were killed in an attack here in 1976.
