Kamui sits in the hills about 30 minutes west of central Asahikawa. January highs in the city average around minus 3 and the nights fall to about minus 12, and snow that settles in that cold stays so dry you can't press it into a snowball.
The gondola climbs 2,327 m from the Center House to the 751 m summit, where Trattoria Monte751 serves pizza and pasta at lunch. Five double chairs spread out below. Gold is the signature cruiser and runs up to 150 m wide, and the far side of the hill under Lift 5 is where the pitch gets serious: Dynamic is groomed and tips to 35 degrees, and Deep Powder beside it is left alone.

The tree courses are what bring strong riders here on a storm day. Treerun and Bumps drop off gates beside the Rindo logging road, and Todomatsu has its own gate on Renraku. Royal Powder is easier to find because it runs through the woods right next to the gondola at up to 35 degrees. Expect fallen logs and sudden steps under the snow in all of them. Everything outside the boundary is off limits.
A day here costs ¥5,300, about two-thirds of the walk-up rate at Furano. Dohoku Bus route 455 runs from Asahikawa Station in about 40 minutes for ¥1,000, and Sapporo is roughly 90 minutes away by car. Order the Asahikawa shoyu ramen in the Center House at lunch, and watch the clock on the far side because Lift 5 shuts at 15:00.
