Canmore Ski Village is the closest ski hill to Asahikawa Airport, about 15 minutes by car, and it makes a good first afternoon if you land early and want to shake out your legs. The runs carry Canadian names like Rocky, Caribou, Marmot and Buffalo, and the longest is Rocky at 1,570 m through the trees.
Most of the terrain is gentle, with a couple of short ungroomed pitches for stronger riders. Death Valley is the steepest at 31 degrees and only 103 m long, so treat it as a quick hit off the top. Night riding from 16:30 costs ¥500, and Higashikawa town and the road up to Asahidake are both a short drive away.
