Volcanic alert
Tokachidake is at volcanic alert level 3
The Japan Meteorological Agency raised Tokachidake to level 3 on 12 September 2026, which restricts entry around the crater. Fukiage Onsen Hakugin-so and the Fukiage Roten-no-yu outdoor bath are closed, and Ryounkaku has asked guests who couldn't evacuate quickly to stay away for now. Check the JMA bulletin before you plan any tour on the Tokachi range.

Know before you bathe
Bath and face towels handed over at reception; shampoo, conditioner and body soap provided. No cameras or phones in the bath. The hotel states tattooed guests "may be partly restricted".
Getting there
Inside the New Furano Prince Hotel at the base of the Furano Zone; walk straight off the slope.
Shisai-no-yu is in the onsen wing of the New Furano Prince, at the foot of the Furano Zone, and it's the easiest soak in town if you've been riding the ropeway side. The water rises from 1,010 metres underground. It's an alkaline salt spring with iodine in it, and it comes up at 26°C, so the hotel heats it.
Indoors there's a jet bath, and the rotenburo is the place to lie back and look for stars. The Finnish sauna is lined with old pine salvaged from North American houses, and the cold plunge sits outside.
Day entry is ¥1,700 with towels and runs until 11:30 at night. The hotel's terms say guests with tattoos may face partial restrictions, so ask at the onsen desk before you pay. It shuts for a maintenance period every November.
