Tokachidake Onsen Kamihoroso

Kamihoroso is the other inn at Tokachidake Onsen. It stands a little below Ryounkaku at 1,200 metres among old Sakhalin spruce, and the inn streams a live camera of the view on its website if you want to check the weather before driving up.

The main bath is built entirely of wood, with tubs of Japanese yew, and the whole room smells of timber. The spring is an acidic aluminium and calcium sulphate water that leaves the ground at about 29°C, so the inn heats it, and every drop runs through without being recycled. The changing rooms were rebuilt in June 2026.

Day bathing ends at three in the afternoon, which makes it a midday plan. In early October 2026 the inn ran two free bathing days to thank people who kept visiting during the volcanic alert, and it reports it is outside the restricted zone and open. Check the Tokachidake alert level before you drive up.
