Getting there
On village roads on Yotei's southwestern side, roughly between Niseko and Rusutsu; about 30 minutes from JR Kutchan Station by car.
Makkari is a farming village on Yotei's southwestern side, roughly between Niseko and Rusutsu, and its village-run onsen faces the mountain head on. Each side has one rotenburo, and dusk is the time to be in it.
The spring comes up at 54°C as a weakly alkaline mix of salt, sulphate and bicarbonate. It leaves the ground clear and goes pale yellow as it sits in the tub. With a sauna on each side and a big tatami hall for lying around afterwards, an hour disappears fast.
Plan around the renovation. The village is closing the building from 2 November to 21 December 2026, and for the rest of the season it shuts on Mondays. It belongs to the Niseko Yumeguri onsen pass, and kids under school age get in free.
